Creating Membership Sites and Generating Recurring Monthly Revenue

Creating Membership Sites and Generating Recurring Monthly Revenue
By Michael Ullman

One of the "hot" strategies in Internet Marketing lately is to use Membership Sites. So what is a membership site? A membership site are basically any kind of website where someone must "join" the site in order to benefit from the information, products or or services offered by that site. Such sites typically require members to pay a fee - often monthly - that can range from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars. To you, as a membership site owner, such fees provide regular, ongoing income. This can be invaluable in terms of ensuring continued cash flow for your business.

A membership site can be relatively quick and easy to set up and the cost minimal. Basically, your main challenges will be to continue attracting new members, whilst keeping your existing members happy (and paying!). The good news is that people are willing to pay for useful information and/or services. The "pay for content" business model has been successfully used by large and small companies alike, and is particularly effective in such niches as entertainment, business content and dating.

There are, of course, a few things you need to do and know before starting a membership site! The first thing to do is to pinpoint the right market. In general, you want to find out what field or type of content people are passionate about. And, importantly, what they are willing to pay for. You'll get clues by looking at what other membership sites are doing, and what niches they operate in.

One thing to keep in mind is that you want to be involved in a niche where you will realistically be able to generate enough members to make the site worthwhile. There's no point putting a lot of time, effort and money into a membership site that is only likely to appeal to a handful of people (unless each of those people is willing to pay a lot of money in membership fees!) Also, it's crucial to make your membership site unique. At a minimum, potential members should not be able to find the content you offer anywhere else for free.

When it comes to attracting members to your website, all the usual Internet marketing methods apply, including search engine marketing, online newsletters, viral marketing and affiliate programs.

Finally, it cannot be emphasized enough that the success of your membership site ultimately rests on the value delivered to your members. You need to be able to deliver the information or services expected by your members each and every month if you are to keep them as members. Also, be aware of what it takes to set up and manage one of these sites. Automated sign-ups, automated cancellations and even credit card processing are all essentials when it comes to starting and maintaining a membership site.

No question, membership sites can be a great way to make money online. If you can continue attracting new members, whilst providing the content - information and/or services - expected by your existing members, you are likely to generate good money each and every month.

Now if you don't have a "Paypal.com" account, go there

Now back to your product. You will want to change the
headline of the sales page slightly. Make it fresh and
unique.

Then you will want to make sure to go through the actual
sales letter that comes with your product and proof read
it for mistakes. Feel free to add your own "flair" to the

you exactly what you need to get a jump start in the right

#1 - You must build an opt in list of subscribers so you can

Use pay per click advertising and only bid on highly focused

without research you are in for a disaster.

#3 - Another one of the better internet marketing ideas is to

find at least twenty or thirty other marketers who are in a
similar niche to yours.

Send them a short letter asking them if they would like to

Make Money Online Plug In Profit Internet Marketing

Nothing is sweeter then the reality of the statement: "make money online plug in profit internet marketing". Once you have done it yourself, then you will immediately recognize what that mouthful means! Simply put it is a method of Internet marketing wherein you plug in a money making system, only once, that continues to give you a profit over and over again.

The set up can mean many things. Basically it will be a system you put in place one time, with the ultimate goal leading to a profit in your pocket. All on auto-pilot once the initial work is done. Your only job after that, is to keep targeted traffic flowing to and through this system.

With worldwide Internet usage up by 265.6 % over the last seven years, you can easily see that the supply of eager Internet customers will never run out. And the possibilities of making automated profits are endless. Below you will find a few top money making systems people are using for earning online everyday.

Examples of Plug In Profit Internet Marketing:

You can give away a free ebook tied to an autoresponder system that sends several letters containing helpful tips, articles and gifts related to the free material you gave away. At the bottom of each letter comes your opportunity for plug in profits by promoting a certain affiliate product or even one of your own products. Use a book that has your own links in it to recommended resources for the reader and you increase your chance at earning money with it even more. Not to mention using content you have written yourself in the ebook is even better. You will brand your name in the industry you write about and build the trust of your readers as well.

Another powerful example is a high content blog focused on a niche market, auto-mated with RSS feed content and monetized via contextual advertising such as Google Adsense and carefully laid out ads, to your products and affiliate program offers related to the blog's content. All putting money in your pocket automatically as readers interested in your content visit enjoy your content and make a purchase of the related items on your site.

Viral Marketing is another great way of setting up once and reaping the benefits for many months or even years to come. Create a quality e-book and make it re-brandable for your affiliates or web site visitors then give them give away rights. As they pass it on to others your chance for sales from the links inside increase exponentially.

Write articles and distribute them in article directories, forums and blogs to put them on auto-pilot. At the bottom of the articles put an author resource box promoting one of your products related to the article subject.

Adding an affiliate program is even a good example of this type of marketing. As you build your affiliate numbers and their advertising in turn increases the traffic to your site so will your product sales. You set the affiliate program up once and it grows daily.

Creating membership sites also falls in the above category and quite possibly even qualifies as a better fit, as there will not be near as much maintenance as an affiliate program. You simply set up a member area with quality resources or services available only to those that join. You will earn residual income from the members who join and can even give them a cut of the residual profits for each member they bring in. Many membership sites also feature a higher end product related to the site, known as a one time offer (OTO). This adds even more additional revenue to the mix.

With some experimentation you will find certain methods work better for you then others. Everyone is different and we can't all do the same thing to create a profit for us online. One of the things that makes this such a fascinating line of work.

Which way you choose to create your own make money online plug in profit internet marketing system is dependent on your individual talents, interests and time available to put into setting it up. It is highly recommended that you research whatever you choose to do towards this goal and take the smartest path to it to help reduce the work and time it takes to set it up and minimize losses if you find your particular choice does not work well for you.

Learn to Draw a Rose Step by Step

Learn to Draw a Rose Step by Step
By Lee Mckenna

I want to talk more about how you can learn to draw a rose step by step. You might want to learn to draw a rose step by step because you would like a rose for a tattoo or you might want to learn because of a particular drawing your doing. Whatever the reason you would like to learn to draw a rose step by step the first you need to do is get an idea in your head about what you want to achieve in the drawing.

I recommend you do a loose sketch first before you start. Drawing loosely does have its advantages when learning to draw a rose step by step or learning to draw anything for that matter weather it be a rose a car or a building.

First off when you learn to draw a rose step by step look at what you are drawing take a rose in your hand and feel it look at the shape, this is really important because you need to get it locked in your mind.

Start with a plain piece of paper and begin to do a loose rough sketch. At this stage your drawing does not have to be perfect in anyway. Think of it as if you were a writer, all your doing is putting down your rough ideas first then this will eventually form the basis of your letter, book or stories. It's the same with your drawings.

Once your loose rough sketch is done and you have it down on paper you can then start to develop things even further and begin to put shading into your drawing. I always draw my pictures on A3 size paper first, this way I can do small thumbnail sketches of what I intend to draw and then rework and improve the original drawing if needed.

So when you learn to draw a rose step by step you start buy drawing a loose sketch of the structure and just as a sculptor would you need to flesh out the drawing and include things like the thorns and leafs and stem and you will start to see the drawing come to life.

This process shouldn't be skipped in anyway in any drawing you intend to do as you will find you can create lots of drawings this way, drawings that you probably wouldn't of come up with in the first place if you didn't do loose sketches.

For other ways of getting good ideas for your drawings and more importantly to learn to draw even better I have found a grate site that I think will benefit you or any one who is interested in learning to draw. You can click the following link http://www.learntodraw.biz

Is It Possible To Find A New Color?

Is It Possible To Find A New Color?
By Shilpa Shah

Like a new expedition for a traveler, it is an artist's quest to discover new colors to add vigor and elevation of wonderment to his paintings. Colors are awe-inspiring, stir the emotions in us, and reflect our personality. Splash few different colors on a piece of paper, you will feel some energy around you. Although there are no images and words on that paper except for some colors, you feel very energetic. This is because colors can add movement, vigor, and zeal in you.

From the time, the first artist experimented with dyes in search of new colors, like an adventurous expedition in search for the Philosopher's stone, and till now, the search has not stopped. Yesterday it was only one man in search of colors. Today, there are thousands of men in search of new colors. Every industry wants to discover a new color. Let that be cosmetic industry, trying to come up with new lipstick shades or color paints, painting industry, visual media, artists, designers, etc.

The only way new shades of colors are formed by finding new tints and shades of every tint and shade itself. Have you ever visited a cosmetic or a paint shop? Ask for a choice of color, they give you a catalogue full of different colors. However, are they all different? You will see fifty different shades of red, all a shade lighter than one another, without much difference. New colors will just add to these shades.

Is there any new color out in the nature that has never been seen before and has never been thought of before? Colors are detected by the brain. The visual brain only sees colors that it can see. There may be other colors in the visual spectrum of the universe, but human eye cannot detect anything extraordinary because of the cortex. There are three stages, how colors are detected.

- The wavelength processing

- The color constancy

- The color of the object

Only after the wavelengths of the colors are registered in the brain and the signals are sent to the optic nerve, human eye can see colors. What about people who suffer from color blindness? This is because the wavelengths of red and green fail to get registered and hence, the person cannot see green and red.

Every action and reaction happens within us. We can only imagine colors through words. To do this also, one needs a wide imaginative mind that can soar high like an eagle, in the open air of the universe. On the other hand, unless you a writer or a poet, who has the flair to evoke emotions through a chain of words.

"The flowers were blooming all around and they had colors that I had never seen before. I was very aware that I had never seen these colors before and I was very excited about it.

I thought I had seen all colors. I was thrilled to death of the beauty that was incredible. In addition to the beautiful colors, I could see a soft light glowing within every living thing. It was not a light that was reflected from the outside from a source, but it was coming from the center of this flower. Just this beautiful, soft light. I think I was seeing the life inside of everything." - Jayne Smith

Did these lines evoke a new feeling of seeing something that you had never seen before? This is the new color of life.

Where Do Colors Come From?

Where Do Colors Come From?
By Shilpa Shah

Color is the language of the universe. It interconnects our body, heart, and soul. It soothes our emotions, spurs energy into us, protects, and raises our health and our spirits. Color is everywhere we see. Blue sky, green grass, orange sunset, brown barks, etc. The seven colors of nature, the colors of the rainbow, are the colors that make this earth look so beautiful.

Sun light has no color of its own. It simply appears to be white. When this light is passed though a prism, it refracts the seven colors, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. This was discovered by Isaac Newton. A similar example is easily demonstrated in the nature. After rainfall, there is a lot of moisture in the rain. This moisture, in the form of water droplets, refracts the seven colors of the sun light forming a spectacularly beautiful rainbow. Colors are light waves that are reflected and absorbed by all things around us. When this white color falls on a red rose, all colors are absorbed except for red. The flower reflects red making it appear red in color. Similarly, in case of a white flower, all colors are absorbed. No color is refracted. Hence, the flower looks white in color.

Color is made up of different frequencies and wavelengths. Every color has its own frequency and wavelength. The color is determined by the light's wavelength. These wavelengths correspond to the distance between the crests, like that in a wave rising from a water body. However, the wavelength of light is so small that it has to be measured in very small units. Color with the shortest wavelength is violet, whereas, red has the longest. Most of the colors like purple, brown, pink, etc do not have a single wavelength. They are a combination of two or more wavelengths. Purple is a combination of two primary colors, red, and violet. Brown comprises of three different wavelengths, orange, red, and yellow. Pink is made of red and white.

What we see is nothing but just refraction. Objects and living things like trees and flowers do not have color of their own. They just refract the colors of sunlight, and in some cases absorb to appear white. A black bag looks black because it does not absorb any of the colors. It refracts all the colors appearing to be black.

Try this. In the day, when the sun is shining bright in the sky, you see everything clearly. In the night, why do not you see anything? That is because there are no colors these trees and objects can reflect and absorb. Flash a torch and you will be able to see things. This is because there are wavelengths that objects can absorb and refract. Try flashing a red light on a white object. It will appear red. This is because; a white object absorbs all the seven colors to look white. Not just one. Flash blue light. What do you see?

The Art of Banksy

The Art of Banksy
By Shilpa Shah

Banksy is an English Graffiti Artist, yet pseudo-anonymous. He is a native of Yate, near Bristol. He was born and brought up in Bristol, England in 1974. In the beginning he started as a freehand artist of graffiti. As a beginner, he always used stencils. His first work that attracted attention of many artists from Ohio and the UK was "Walls on Fire. " By 2000, he decided to work with stencils because this art was less time consuming than others were.

Banksy's identity will forever be unknown to the world. But his work is very prolific, witty, and subversive. This makes it not so easy to forget his paintings. This graffiti artist decorates walls, zoos, and bridges of cities and towns across the world. His art works portray political, ethical, and cultural aspects of the society, often reflecting irony. His vandalism began in Paris in 1981, where he combined graffiti writing with exceptional stenciling technique like that of Blek le Rat.
Banksy's stenciled graffiti's have humorous and attractive images, and sometimes with slogans as well. He always conveys a message through his images. They are usually pro-freedom, anti-war, anti-establishment or ant-capitalist related. The subjects of his graffiti are often rats, monkeys, elderly, children, police officers, and soldiers. He also designs stickers and makes sculptors. He was also responsible for Blur's 2003's album 'Think Tank's' cover art.

Banksy's work have also been exhibited and bought by celebrities like Christina Aguilera. He has stenciled Mona Lisa in green with paint that dripped from her eyes. This mater piece was sold for 57, 600 pounds. In the year 2007, Banksy made a new record by selling his work, 'Space girl and bird' for 288, 000 pounds.

Besides these, there are many other art pieces that are high profile and classic art pieces of Banksy.

• At London Zoo, he painted, 'We are bored of fish' in a penguin enclosure, which had a height of seven foot.

• At Bristol zoo Banksy wrote, 'I want out. This place is too cold. Keeper smells. Boring. Boring. Boring' for the elephants.

• Banksy's nine paintings on the Israeli West Bank barrier were exceptionally different.
Some of Banksy's images rose controversies also.

• Banksy's painting of Mona Lisa with a smiling face in yellow, was hung by Banksy in at Louvre in Paris.

• Diane Shakespeare and Peter Gibson of Keep Britain Tidy said that Banksy's street paintings were nothing but vandalism.

• Banksy's portable toilets made of plastic that resembled Glastonbury Festival's Stonehenge rose controversy.

Although Banksy's paintings and images have arose controversies, art books of his images have been published. 'Banging your head against a brick wall', 'Existencilism', 'Cut it out' and 'wall and piece' are few books that display his paintings. Every day you take a narrow lane with nothing but walls. But one fine day if you notice an image of a nude man hanging from a window, you ought to notice that. This has bought fame and money to Banksy. Who does not want that? Yet, he is anonymous.

An Introduction to Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa

An Introduction to Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa
By Victor Epand

The Mona Lisa is one of the must studied and celebrated works of art in existence. It currently hangs in the Louvre in Paris under the title Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo. The painting was started in 1502 by legendary artist Leonardo da Vinci but was not completed until 1519.

The true identity of the woman pictured in the painting was not cemented until 2005, when a University of Heidelberg expert discovered a note that identified her as being Lisa del Giocondo. The Mona portion of the title comes from a shortened version of the Italian phrase ma donna ("my lady") which was similar to how we use Madam in English. Da Vinci was hired by Lisa's husband Francesco del Giocondo to create the painting.

The painting features the image of a woman with her hands folded in her lap. A glow lights up her hands, face, neck and breast. Her eyes are focused as if looking directly at her observer. The armrest of the chair separates her from the viewer. She is sitting in a loggia flanked by dark pillars. The imaginary vast landscape that ends at ice covered mountains. Paths wind through the scenery and a bridge is a distance. The harmonious nature of the image was meant to represent the artist's belief in the link between nature and humanity.

Geometric shapes are recurrent in the image. Lisa's hands form a pyramid shape. The lighting of the various aspects of her body creates circular and spherical shapes. The curving lines of her garments and hair are repeated in the rivers and valleys behind her.

The painting has been restored many times with x-rays showing at least three versions of the images under the current one. There are concerns about the future of the painting. During its lifespan, the original frame of the work was removed and the poplar panel warped under humidity causing a crack near the top. Around the early 19th Century, an attempt was made to keep the crack from extending further by using braces on the back of the panel. Because of its sensitivity to temperature, it is now kept in a climate controlled case.

The Mona Lisa has been subject to various acts of vandalism and theft. The first theft attempt came in 1911 when it disappeared from its position in the Louvre. Suspects were brought in- including Pablo Picasso- but the painting wasn't recovered for two years. The thief was a museum employee and Italian patriot who believed the work should be returned to its home country and put on display. The painting was purposefully moved during World War II when it was relocated for its own safety.

The painting suffered through two vandalism attacks in 1956. The first was through a splash of acid. The second vandal chucked a rock at the masterpiece. The integrity of the painting was compromised but covered with a restoration project. The climate controlled case is also meant to stop further acts of vandalism and is bulletproof.

Everyone Now Uses Photoshop - Why Creative Graphic Designers & Graphic Design Jobs are Disappearing

Everyone Now Uses Photoshop - Why Creative Graphic Designers & Graphic Design Jobs are Disappearing
By Jeremy Tuber

A young lady that attended my creative freelance designer workshop at the Art Institute of Phoenix recently asked, "What if I don't have any interest or knowledge of doing marketing for a company? I just don't get into writing content, creating tag lines and stuff like that..."

Hmm, the prognosis for her business doesn't look good - at least to me it doesn't. It'll be on life-support before too long. Like the African Elephant or the California Condor, traditional graphic designers are becoming extinct. Things weren't always like this but the design industry is changing because of technology; and many clients are finding they don't need traditional designers. This is pretty scary, but it's true - look at what's come on the scene within the last 5 years:

* Web site templates

* Easy to use graphic software packages

* Collateral material templates

* Stock photography

* Stock logos

* Global marketplace because of the Internet, the ability to work with freelancers all over the world (including developing countries)

There was once a time you could be a freelance designer if you had Photoshop and a working knowledge of how to use it, but technology's changed all of this. Adobe and other software manufacturers have made these once industry only software packages available to the public - and a lot of "the public" has caught on. Once on the elite could purchase and train to learn Photoshop, but I kid you not, I've seen middle school kids demonstrate that they have a basic understanding of how to use and get around in that program. If you're relying on your knowledge of design software to earn you a job or clients, this should scare the hell out of you.

Couple this with the explosion of template crap factories that crank out logos, web template and branding packages and you can start to see that what it took to be a freelancer 10 years ago isn't good enough anymore. If you're a creative freelancer you have to learn how to compete and add value in different areas. To make things worse, clients can now hire someone in India, Europe or South America to work on their project for virtually nothing, or they can just decide not to pay anyone and attempt to do it themselves. It's an ugly situation for sure; freelancers only have one of two options: change to meet the new needs of clients or starve.

The bottom line: if you want to be a traditional graphic designer that only focuses on being able creating cool imagery rather than getting your hands dirty with marketing, things are most likely going to be tough for you - especially if you're just starting out. If you're biggest selling point is that, "You have great designs", you're screwed.

I realize that's harsh, and I don't mean to paint such a bleak picture but I do owe it to you (readers and fellow colleagues) to be honest. Traditional graphic designers and web designers are disappearing - clients want more, and because of technology they can get it. And there aren't a lot of clients out there that are willing to pay top dollar for someone to create imagery without any benefits to their bottom line.

There will always be a place for designers in the business world, but make no mistake, the landscape is changing. Savvy designers have seen this already and they are already starting to move towards learning and being able to provide services that help their clients bring in business and make money. If through your design talents you have the ability to bring in customers and make a company money, they'll always be a place for you, if you're relying on your great eye for design to save you, it won't. Take a tip from animals that have been on this planet for thousands of years: learn to adapt to survive.

Have you ever noticed that companies that are in financial trouble always cut personnel that do not directly bring in sales & revenue? If you're a designer without the ability to bring in customers and revenue you can expect to be one of the first cuts. That's a scary place to be.

Best of luck my friend and colleague.

Art galleries are venues to showcase the works of art of each participating artist. Collections in art galleries are rapidly changing and there is a rapid turnover with the items being sold in the Art galleries as people rush around to buy what has been featured in the last several weeks. Can Anyone Really Learn to Paint?

Can Anyone Really Learn to Paint?
By Gerald Scott

The honest answer is yes! I truly believe, based on my
own personal experience and from what I have seen
others do with my own two eyes, that yes, anyone can
learn to paint and to paint very well.

I have always enjoyed looking at different types of
artwork and I especially like oil and watercolor paintings.
I just find it so amazing how one can create an illusion of
reality with just a few dashes of paint here and there.
Well, I know that's rather simplistic but I think you get
the point.

I was about 33 years old when I decided to take the plunge
into the art world and learn how to do some of what I had
admired so much. I set out on a mission to find a local art
class or someone that could teach me the basics oil
painting. Believe it or not I was very difficult to find
someone that actually taught classes that would show me
how to paint and explain how and why to properly use
the tools.

I eventually gave up on finding a class and decided to see
if I could learn from one of the program I saw on PBS TV.
I had watched the Bob Ross - Joy of Painting series many
times over the years and decided. I was always quite
enchanted by Bob Ross as he gracefully stepped through
his paintings on TV. He would always say you can do this
my friend, you can do this. I guess over time I began to
take him at his word and gave it a try.

I placed an order for a Master Paint Kit
(and all the fixins).
I couldn't wait to get started, it was like waiting for
Christmas. When I received my supplies I setup my easel
and canvas with eager anticipations of completing my first
painting. I popped the VHS tape that came with the kit into
my VCR and soaked up every word. I carefully watched
every movement and every brush stroke until I was sure
I knew exactly what to do and how to do it. Now I was
ready to paint.

And there I sat, staring nervously at this vast white empty
space. One day, two days, eventually almost a week went
by and I still had accomplished nothing more then just a
stare at a blank canvas.

Now I had another obstacle to overcome. Fear had set in
and I was afraid to mess-up my beautiful white canvas.
With no one to give me that little extra push or
encouragement it was very easy to allow my fear of failure
to prevent me from getting started. Finally encouragement
did come from a vary unexpected source. My wife.

Each day she would come in to see what I had done only
to be totally disappointed. Finally she said "After all the
money you spent on those paints and brushes you either
put it on the canvas or I'm putting it on your dinner
plate". Well that was enough motivation for me. A man's
gotta eat. So I started and completed my first painting.
It took me about 9 hours to complete it and I was up into
the early hours of the next morning but I was determined to
finish it.

Well, my first painting was certainly nothing to get
excited about. And let me tell you it did absolutely
nothing for my ego. But, it taught me many things.
I realized that with a little practice I could perhaps
learn how to paint certain objects such as trees, clouds
mountains and grass.Although the painting was not
very good I could see a tiny glimmer of potential.

So I decided rather then try to do a complete painting I
would just concentrate on painting individual elements
that may eventually go into a painting. Plus this way my
mistakes would be a lot smaller and easier to tolerate.
So I began to practice, practice, practice. Using both the
VHS tape and the step-by-step written instructions as a
guide, I would simply paint each element over and over
until I got the result I was happy with.

After just a few weeks I was confident enough to tackle
another painting project. This time I was totally pleased
with my results and my wife was absolute amazed.
It only took me about 2-1/2 hours to paint the same scene
that I previously spent over 9 hours to paint. At that
moment I became a firm believer that anyone given
proper encouragement and instruction can learn to
paint and paint well.

I have since gone on to become a certified instructor for
the Bob Ross method of oil painting. I have personally
seen peoples lives change and confidence and creativity
blossom as they realize their new found talents.
Yes it is true "Anyone Can Learn to Paint" and so can you.

To your success,

- Gerald Scott

The Unsung Heroes of Internet

The Unsung Heroes of Internet
By Leo Paguio

If you are not aware of the most website you visit the visual presentation is somewhat unique that shows difference from other site. This is through the effort of the unsung heroes of the community. They are the graphic artists who are not mentioned on most of the sites in the internet.

Unless you will visit graphics related sites, you will see the talent and most especially the time and concept formulated just to create a unique visual presentation of the website. From ordinary mixing of colors, flash presentation and conceptualization, these graphic artists don't receive any appreciation or commendation. This is because they created their own world, expressing their views in a different manner. By making their imagination materialize, has made them gratify their own fulfillment.

Graphic artists play a vital role in the virtual community, without them, I don't know how these websites appear on the eye of the viewer. Most of the webmasters give focus on the visual presentation of their website, it should be stimulating to make the visitor stay a bit longer or even bookmark the site for future reference. But what are being given emphasis are the websites itself and all the features within and the one that created the graphics of the site is out of the blue.

Though there are lots of products created by these graphic artists being sold or even free on the net, it seems that the effort does not commensurate on the payment offered. How do you see it done? Well, unless you are a gifted person formulating your own graphics to your website, is another thing that makes these graphic artists to be on the unnoticed side of the community.

Since these artists are contributing immensely on the internet, they should be treated the same with others formulating and making this community a better place to live in. Though a website without any visual presentation can formulate profit beyond reasonable doubt, the visual presentation is also a factor; no! it's a big factor for a website to make and formulate the traffic desired, not to include that visual presentation could target the desired traffic of the website.

"Picture paints a thousand words," is a maxim that stimulates these graphic artists. Let me rephrase the idea where they start, correct me if I am wrong; first, they think what will be their audience in that particular image, then formulate the idea. It starts on a simple sketch, a scratched that later on maximized with the combination of the colors based on the thoughts of these projected audience. If you think this is simple, then you're are an artist, but is it simple to make an idea presented in a visual form? I don't think so.

The work needs time and effort just any other works on the internet or in the real world. And when it comes to work, dedication and commitment is one of the ingredients. Thus, the time for these Graphic Artists should be taken into consideration.

Kudos! Masters of Photoshop and graphics software's enthusiasts, we are no longer invisible in the virtual community.

The Biography of Martin Luther King

The Biography of Martin Luther King
By Elaheh Jarrahi

A quick glance at the biography of Martin Luther King:

Martin Luther King was the most important figure when it came to civil rights movement. He worked hard to obtain social changes for African Americans. He, himself, was an African American. He was also a Baptist minister and he was known for being a great public speaker and for encouraging people to attend peaceful campaigns rather than using violence to achieve their rights. He established the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (the SCLC) in 1957 and in 1963 he led a large crowd of people on a protest march to Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. It was where he made his famous "I have a dream" speech. In 1964 he won the Nobel Prize for peace. Four years later, in 1968, he was shot and killed in Memphis, Tennessee, by Earl Ray. The person who has continued his work after his death up to now is Coretta Scott King, his wife. In the US there is a national holiday on January 15 to celebrate his birthday.

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed. We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
Martin Luther King

Martin Luther King, Jr., known as the greatest leader of the civil rights movement, was born Michael Luther King, Jr. in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia but later had his name changed to Martin. His grandfather and his father were pastors of a local church called the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. Although the blacks in the South were suffering from poor conditions, the King family could afford a comfortable life at the time.

In 1929 when King was born, most black people were living in the south under severe conditions. In addition to having financial difficulties, they were deprived of a lot of civil rights. In other words, blacks and whites lived in different worlds. In the South, blacks had to sit in the back of the bus, they could not attend the same school as the whites, most blacks in the South could not vote, they could not eat in the same restaurants as whites; there were even different drinking fountains for blacks and whites.

King was graduated at the age of fifteen from high school after attending segregated schools in Georgia. He was a clever child and he did well at school. He received his BA degree from the same institution his father and grandfather had attended. It was called Morehouse College and it was a famous Negro institution in Atlanta. Then he had three years of theological study in Pennsylvania. He won a scholarship from Boston University while he was in Pennsylvania and as a result, he could get his PhD in 1955. When he was in Boston he got acquainted with and later got married a young woman named Coretta Scott who was an artist. They had two sons and two daughters.

In 1954 King accepted to become the pastor of a Baptist church in Montgomery, Alabama, named the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. Simultaneously he became a member of the executive committee of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (the NAACP). He was ready then to be the guide for the first great Negro nonviolent demonstration of that time in the United States by managing the plan for the bus boycott of 1955 which lasted for 382 days. Rosa Parks was the person who initiated it. In 1955 she refused to give her seat to a white man while she was at the back of a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, as the local law required her to do so. She was arrested and then Martin Luther King encouraged African Americans in Montgomery not to use the buses. Although most of the blacks in Montgomery did not have cars, they either walked to work or stayed at home. It was only after the Supreme Court announced that the laws regarding segregation on buses were unconstitutional that Negroes and whites could ride the buses equally (December 21, 1956). From the time King decided to become a voice in the civil rights movement, he was encountered with lots of perils. During the days of the bus boycott, not only King was arrested but also his house was bombed.

In 1957 there was a meeting of hundreds of Southern black church leaders. They shared their opinions and at the end King came to the conclusion that black people had to work together to achieve their rights. He believed that they had to be united. One of his favorite sayings was "United we stand, divided we fall". In 1957 he formed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (the SCLC) and was elected its president. It members were mostly African American church leaders. The organization supported peaceful protests and its roots were taken both from Christianity and the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi who was a great inspiration for King from the time King was in college.

The year 1960 was important for African Americans. As King's policy of nonviolent behavior was becoming more and more popular in the South, African Americans put a new way of protesting into practice which was called "sitting-in". Black people in the South were not allowed to eat in the same restaurants as whites did. In February 1960, four black students in North Carolina, walked into a restaurant and ordered a meal, but the waitress refused to take their order. As a result, the students did not leave the restaurant. They started a "sit-in". Other students joined them quickly. Although those students were arrested, sit-ins became more and more popular. Even white students in the North travelled to the South to join the sit-ins. Martin Luther King joined a sit-in which was held at an Atlanta restaurant in October 1960.

He was arrested and put in prison. The person who could help King in prison was Senator John F Kennedy. He asked the judge to set King free, as Coretta Scott had already gone to him for help, and the judge did so by setting him free.

From 1957 when the organization was established till 1968 when King was assassinated, the SCLC organized King's speeches of over twenty-five hundred times and his travels of over six million miles. King also wrote five books in addition to his many articles. His leadership for massive protest in Birmingham, Alabama, happened in these years. The protest was what he called a coalition of conscience. He also encouraged the African Americans of Alabama to register in order to vote. Then 1963, the same year when he was chosen as the Man of the Year by Time magazine, he led a peaceful march of 250,000 people to Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC where he gave his address "I have a dream". At that time, twelve million of nineteen million black citizens in the US lived in the South. He compared opinions with President John F Kennedy and he also campaigned for President Lyndon B Johnson. He was arrested for more than twenty times and was attacked at least four times. He was given five honorary degrees and became not only a figure of the civil rights movement but also a world figure.

He received the Nobel Prize for peace in 1964, when he was only thirty-five, making him the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When he became aware of his selection, he donated his prize money of $54,123 to the development of the civil rights movement.

On April 4, 1968, King was in Memphis, Tennessee in order to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage collectors of the city. On the same day, while he was standing on the balcony of his motel room, he was shot and killed by a man called James Earl Ray. His assassinator was sentenced to 99 years in prison and died while he was serving his sentence in 1998. But many people believed that Ray was not alone and that there was a conspiracy behind the assassination designed by white politicians and acted by Ray.

On the stone above his grave the last words of his most famous speech are engraved:
"Free at last, free at last; thank God Almighty, I'm free at last."

But have the followers of Martin Luther King achieved his goals and dreams? The answer to this question is "not yet", King's dream of true equality has not fully come true, as right now in the US a young African American is five times more likely to be put in prison, out of work, or dead in street violence when compared to a young white American.

Putting Time Into Your Invented World - Timekeeping and SF Writing

Putting Time Into Your Invented World - Timekeeping and SF Writing
By Robert Gibson

If you invent a world on which to set your stories, you will have to think about its "day" and "year"; and you may find that these details are more than details - they can become a great part of what the story is about.

The world may be alien or it may be a future Earth. Leigh Brackett and J G Ballard have written short stories set on a fairly near-future Earth which for some reason has stopped rotating; of course this is scienfically implausible but the authors rightly did not care - they were writing with evocative purpose in mind. Stories of a tidally-locked, non-rotating Earth are, however, more plausible if set in the really far future, such as Brian Aldiss' novel Hothouse.

The late Arthur C Clarke wrote a light short, "Trouble with Time", set on Mars, where, since there is no ocean in which to put the International Date Line, one can step from one day to another on dry land - with amusing results when not knowing that it's Sunday has results fatal to a projected crime.

Aldiss' Helliconia trilogy is set on a world which orbits inside a double star system; there is the year, and there is the Great Year. The year is the time it takes for the planet to circle its star, but that star in turn circles its larger companion star in a much longer period (thousands of our years) and long-term climatic changes result from the varying distances of Helliconia from the more distant, giant sun. Over the three books of the trilogy, Helliconia Spring, Helliconia Summer and Helliconia Winter, the author brilliantly explores the cultural and biological changes over one Great Year. (Ufortunately the dating system he invents does not make much sense to me; the figures are not believable - over a million Great Years cannot have passed since the "catastrophe" - the capture of the smaller sun by the larger - since giant stars don't last that long.)

On Ooranye, the invention took a course influenced by my dislike for artificial time-zones. Time-zones are of course necessary but they irritate me with their pretence that you can parcel time up in this way; and of course the most irritating thing of all is Daylight Saving Time, with its pretence that noon - when the Sun crosses the meridian - occurs at one p.m. ("post meridian!) during summer. Anyhow, when inventing Ooranye, I wanted a world where the time was the same all the world over. This meant that the cycle of day and night could not be caused by the planet's rotation.

In any case Ooranye (the planet Uranus) is too far from the sun for its light to have the same importance as it does for us; sunlight is only about one three-hundredth as bright as it is on Earth. The Uranians have a much more influential light source: the micro-organisms in their world's atmosphere. This biomass has a pulsating glow with a thirty-hour cycle. At its darkest it shuts out the firmament completely, so that Sun and stars are invisible. At its brightest it illuminates the upper air so that distant detail on the horizon can be seen. Midway between these two points the biomass goes transparent, allowing the stars to be seen twice a day. Over the whole planet, the cycle is the same, so it is always the same time everywhere on Ooranye. Day comes to the whole world, then night to the whole world.

It is a big result to come from a mild case of irritation with time zones. The moral for writers is, treasure up your irritations and use them!

Robert Gibson is caretaker of the Ooranye Project, creating a fictional giant planet which can be explored on www.ooranye.com. The project's aim is to meld the subgenres of Future History and Planetary Romance, resulting in over a million years of civilization with its own societies, customs, conflicts, triumphs and disasters, politics, philosophies, flora and fauna, empires both human and non-human, and adventures that range over an area ten times that of the surface of the Earth. Lovers of planetary adventure are invited to view the history, comment on the progress of the project, access the tales and keep in touch with the developing destiny of Ooranye.

Beautiful Women and the Cinderella Story!

Beautiful Women and the Cinderella Story!
By Dipty Gharat

In the twenty- first century where Women are treated in the right manner the state of beautiful Women, perhaps, remains the same as it was during the earlier centuries. Excuse me, what did I write? Women and Beautiful Women ? Am I differentiating or discriminating? I'm doing neither of the two things.

I am just trying to relate this topic of psychology to the old and famous fairy tale " Cinderella and her Glass Slipper". Cinderella lived with her step-mother and two Fat , ugly step -sisters who treated her like dirt. The reason? Cinderella was the most beautiful girl on the face of this Earth and her inner beauty, noble lineage reflected on her face and Body.

Her intellect and intelligence reflected in her eyes, so, she was sure to get the Rich, handsome, gentle and brave prince of her dreams. This was the reason why her step-mother and step-sisters had taken extra care to suppress her. The story unfolds the reality that is experienced by every Cinderella in her very own professional and personal shell where she meets such step-mothers and step-sisters at every "step". It unfolds the truth that "one woman is the worst enemy of another woman" and that has been one of the main reason of the miserable state of women not only in the under-developed countries but also in the most developed countries of the modern world.

Beautiful women face the "Cinderella effect" as I call it mostly when they are in the glamorous professions like acting and modeling. The story of Cinderella does not just throw light on this one aspect it also shows the human tendency to demoralize another individual having a great capacity to conquer great Heights.

Cinderella is deliberately given the status of a servant so that she automatically starts assuming herself to be one. This attempt is done again to curb her tendency to dream big dreams and her faith in them. This favourite Fairy Tale is not just a bedtime story but a good lesson of psychology which needs attention.

If we want every Cinderella to make her way to the castle.

The Art of Earthworks

The Art of Earthworks - Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty
By Kathleen Karlsen

The Earthworks movement, a unique part of the history of contemporary art, clearly had something to say about society, technology and modern culture. Rather than utilizing nature motifs and creating two-dimensional painted landscapes, the Earthworks artists pursued direct modification of the landscape itself. This approach was both traditional and progressive.

The tradition of prehistoric monuments and their possible esoteric meanings was a passionate interest among the underground culture in the 1960s and 1970s. The form of Robert Smithson's famous Spiral Jetty (1970) was like a huge petroglyph. This archaic symbol also had ancient associations with the labyrinth. The Spiral Jetty, located in the Great Salt Lake in Utah, was a quarter of a mile long and formed out of bulldozed rock. Like many ancient shrines, it was inaccessible and required a virtual pilgrimage to view directly.

The removal of art from the gallery into the open land was also a means of rejection of the gallery and museum system by the Earthworks artists. This established art as a non-commodity in the face of a consumer society and was a challenge to social orthodoxy.

The massive size of the Earthworks creations favored the value of actual manual labor over the endless debates and criticism of intellectual society. There were additional feminist tones as the artists attempted to sculpt their ideas into the bosom of the maternal earth.

Finally, the isolation of works such as Spiral Jetty away from cosmopolitan areas carried an environmentalist message of concern about man's destruction of natural resources in the post-industrial wastelands.

Smithson's Spiral Jetty shares an essentially organic form with many other modern artists. The impersonality of the Spiral Jetty, however, is explicit. Because of the massive scale of Smithson's work, the only way to fully apprehend the Spiral Jetty is to see a photograph taken from the air. This means of documentation is complemented by mapping and text-based accounts.

The Spiral Jetty also contains an element of performance-based art which is absent in many forms of modern art. Other modern artists often worked in private and even kept their methods secret. The site-specific aspects of Earthworks and the momentous scales made them inherently public performances in spite of their characteristic isolated locations. Furthermore, the outdoor location of the Spiral Jetty emphasized the impact of natural forces and the temporality of art and life.

The Spiral Jetty exemplifies many of the themes which separate modern art from that of the classical era. This work in particular, and earthworks in general, challenge the traditional ideas of reality and permanence in art.

What is Face?

What is Face?
By James Spellman

Western visitors to Thailand often find themselves struggling for an explanation to the mysteries of Thai behaviour. Why do they sometimes behave in ways that seem so strange to us? One common explanation often put forward is the Thai concept of 'face'.

Why won't they admit they are wrong? They would lose face. Why won't they admit they don't know? They would lose face. Why did I get bad service? Because you lost your temper and lost face. Again and again, when newcomers ask for an explanation to some strange facet of Thai behaviour, the old timers give this simple explanation.

I often wonder if the influence of face is not overstated. Are the concepts of face really so different from our own?

What is Face?

Face is a concept that is widespread across most of southern and eastern Asia. It is the idea that it is important to maintain your own reputation and not look bad in front of others. It is good to have high social status. It is good to have a good job, a position of responsibility or influence. It is bad to be seen to fail or do something stupid.

It is also bad to cause other people to lose face. So while maintaining your own reputation you should try not to demean others.

When you look at these ideas, there is nothing unusual about them. Doesn't everybody want to have a good reputation? Shouldn't everybody respect others? They seem like universal concepts. However, the belief is that these are far stronger driving forces in Asia than elsewhere.

How Does Face Work in Thailand?

How face affects Thai behaviour is a big subject. If you really analysed it you could write a book on the subject. We will only attempt to scratch the surface. The first thing to say is that the following are generalisations. Many Thais are not that strongly influenced by face. Still, there are a few ways in which face consistently affects Thai life.

Personal Appearance

Personal appearance is important. It is the first impression you make on people. Thais are generally well turned out, especially when working, going out or dealing with officials.

Many westerners in Thailand enjoy the laid-back atmosphere and like to dress casual in dirty old shirts, shorts and flip-flops. This is fine in casual situations but it can make a bad impression in more formal situations such as dealing with officials. Government officials and offices are positions of respect and if you turn up scruffy, they may see it as a disrespectful start.

You will make this bad opening impression worse if you have tattoos, body piercings or an unusual haircut. These are all things that in Thailand are associated with lower class people. Thailand is a hierarchal society and the impression you make does affect the response you will get from officials. Looking smart is not everything but it is a factor in getting good service.

Behaviour

It is important to act with a degree of dignity. Thais are not serious people but they still like to carry themselves with a little decorum. Joking and fooling around is fine within limits but you should not be too loud or make a spectacle of yourself.

Temper

It is bad to lose your temper or argue in public. That is not to say it doesn't happen. Thais are human and prone to the odd outburst like most people. However, generally they try to control their anger and keep their composure. If they find themselves in a dispute then they believe a strong word and a cold smile are better ways to get their point across while maintaining their face.

Respect Others

It is important to help other people maintain their face. Causing someone else to lose face can actually also cause a loss of face for yourself. The strange thing here is that it is very much to people's faces that you must respect them. Gossiping behind peoples backs is as common here as it is in the west.

Over-reaction to Losing Face

One strange thing about face is that Thais can overreact if they feel they have lost face. While we have already stated that losing your temper is a loss of face, when Thais do lose their temper they can lose it in a big way. They know they are looking bad and losing face and this can actually magnify their anger. The result can be extreme over-reactions and sometimes acts of violence.

Conclusion

The above are just a selection of the ways in which face influences Thai behaviour. However, when you look at them, none of them are that alien to western values. We like to look good, make a good impression, we want people to like and respect us. We do tend to believe it is good to control our tempers and respect others.

There is no doubt that face is a factor in understanding Thai behaviour. It does affect the Thai mentality in subtle and deep-reaching ways. However, I do believe it is a mistake to over-state its importance. The explanations of Thai behaviour are often much simpler. Human nature is still the greatest driving force. The things that influence our behaviour such as love, greed and ego are also the forces that influence Thais.

Thais really are not so different from us. The reason we often don't understand Thai behaviour is simple - people are complicated.

The Mystery Of Orpheus

The Mystery Of Orpheus
By Jon O'bergh

The myths associated with the musician Orpheus are some of the best known of the Greek and Roman myths. But underlying the various versions of the myth are contradictions, or complementary opposites, that make Orpheus the uniter of dualities.

Orpheus is son of Calliope, the Muse of epic poetry, and the ancient Thracian king Oeagrus. Apollo teaches him to play the lyre as a child. His legendary singing and musical skill moves stones and trees and calms wild beasts. Jason recruits Orpheus to join the Argonauts in the quest for the Golden Fleece, because Orpheus will be able to silence the beautiful singing of the Sirens so the ship can safely pass without being lured onto the rocks.

After returning from the voyage, his bride, Eurydice, is bitten by a snake during their wedding and dies. Orpheus travels to the underworld, where his doleful music about his loss moves everyone to tears, thus convincing Hades to let Eurydice live again, but only if Orpheus promises not to gaze back upon her until he reaches the upper world. When he turns around during their ascent to make sure she is following, however, she slips permanently back into the Underworld.

The death of Orpheus branches out into different stories that are wildly contradictory. According to one version of the myth, he is so disconsolate with grief over Eurydice that he kills himself. In another version, he turns to the love of young males for consolation. The Thracian women known as the Maenads, initiates of the secret female mysteries of the god Bacchus, are mad with fury at being scorned by him, and attack him. Or, according to another branch, perhaps they attack him because he has gazed upon their secret rites. At first, the sticks and rocks refuse to strike him because those inanimate objects are charmed by his music. But the clamor of the Maenads' music, with its drums, howls, and flutes made from broken horns, drowns out his gentle lyre, and he is torn limb from limb.

In yet another version of the myth, Orpheus travels to Egypt where he learns about these mystic rites of Bacchus (which are related to the Egyptian rites of Osiris), and introduces the cult to Thrace. Or he brings the rites back from the land of Lydia in the east (now part of Turkey) or beyond. (In Greek musical theory, the Lydian mode, named after the kingdom of Lydia, equates to the notes of the major scale, which became the basis of European music and is now common throughout the world.)

The myth then branches again, and Orpheus was either struck with lightning by Zeus for having revealed the mysteries of the gods to men, or he turned his back on Bacchus and, perhaps to honor the one who gave him music, began worshipping Apollo as the sole deity, which caused a jealous Bacchus to incite the Maenads to kill Orpheus in revenge.

So we have a variety of deaths for a variety of reasons, and the commingling of dualities. This iconic musician becomes associated with both the birth of an exotic cult and death at the hands of an exotic cult. He becomes associated with life - bringing stones to life, stirring men and beasts alike through music - and with death - his visit to the Underworld, the Egyptian cult of Osiris. He becomes associated with tragic love: through the loss of his beloved Eurydice not once but twice, and through sacrificing his life because of his love for men. He becomes associated with worshipping the Apollonian spirit -rational, orderly - and with worshipping the Dionysian spirit - irrational, ecstatic. There is even a polarity between the refined artistry of his playing and the clamorous music of the Bacchants.

A style of poetry developed that was attributed to Orpheus. This Orphic poetry was recited in mystery rites and purification rituals. Plato mentions in "The Republic" a class of vagrant beggar priests who were devoted to these rituals and offered purifications to the rich. Followers of the Orphic way of life often practiced vegetarianism and, interestingly enough, abstention from sex (perhaps they feared the vengeance of the Maenads). It's also interesting that Bacchants were frequently associated with orgiastic practices, but Euripides makes it clear in his play, "The Bacchae," that the Bacchants were chaste. So again, we have a contrast between wild abandon and restraint.

All of these polarities coexist in Orpheus. He represents life and death, order and ecstasy, abandon and restraint. And at the heart of it all is music, possessing an almost supernatural power, a gift from the gods.

Creating An Empowering Environment To Achieve Your Goals

Creating An Empowering Environment To Achieve Your Goals
By Cornelis Boertjens

In my articles I often stress the importance of keeping your thoughts as positive as possible and to balance up your negative thoughts with positive ones. You know, in todays society a lot of people tend to choose a negative view on things and look for reasons why something wouldn't work. However, keeping your own thoughts and feelings positive amongst this negativity is crucial when you are on a journey to achieve your big goals and dreams. It is these positive feelings of gratitude and anticipating of your dream life that assist you in attracting this dream life to your reality. As you will always have negative/dis empowering thoughts now and then, it is important to consciously work on creating positive thoughts as well by using positive visualization, creating a gratitude journal, creating a plan of action etc.

A similar principle could be applied to the people around you. Some people can be real "dream stealers" (I am sure you have come across at least one of them....) and you can really let them affect your attitude about your goals and dreams in a negative way. Other people on the other hand will encourage you to go for your dreams and will be able to inspire you in times you need some encouragement.

The easiest thing would be to just "let go" of these negative people around you, but that is not always as easy if it concerns your mother, brother or a close work colleague you have to deal with in your daily activities. Apart from consciously trying to "block" the energy around their negative comments and input, it is important to actively surround yourself with positive, like minded people who share your "big thinking" and are open to the magnitude of some of your dreams. So think about it...

"Do the people around you inspire you to act upon and achieve your goals?"

If a lot or most of them don't, it is time to take some action to balance up the energy around you and create a more inspiring, empowering environment. Join inspiring groups, communities, etc., that are like minded and focused on making things happen instead of on problems. People that are interested to work on their goals and connect with others who want to do the same. Look for articles, books and other resources that describe success stories, personal journeys and valuable tips on how to achieve your goals. It will be a "shower of light" for you to be surrounded by this positiveness!

One resource that will certainly assist you in this process, is a new on line visualization community called VisionLounge. Www.visionlounge.com is the most empowering community of people with a common goal to achieve their Goals and Dreams, sharing a Journey and inspiring others in the process! VisionLounge offers you a supportive environment to learn, grow and be inspired and to connect with people who are visioneers like yourself! The amazing thing is: this valuable community is offered completely free of charge, and anyone can join! Reading other people's goals and connecting about common interests really creates an environment for you that is positive and that helps to vibrate on a high energy level. This will assist you in manifesting your Vision.

So make sure not to get influenced by negative people around you who try to convince you that your Goals are not 'realistic' or achievable. Your Goals are always worth believing in, and working for. Keep positive and surround yourself as much as possible with people who appreciate and applaud your Goals, who have huge goals themselves and inspire you to dream even bigger! No dream is too big!
